Neuro
Developmental Therapy (NDT) is a non-invasive, complementary
therapy, which aims to improve the social, emotional and academic well-being
of a child.
NDT is a programme of movement designed to weaken the primitive reflexes
in a child, therefore allowing further development of postural reactions
and further development of the brain. We are all genetically programmed
to have primitive reflexes when we are born. These reflexes are necessary
for our survival early in life. The movements that a child makes as a
young baby should inhibit these reflexes to within a normal range. They
should be weakened by 12-18 months. If they are found after this, they
usually indicate a level of Neuro Developmental Delay (NDD). If they are
even partially retained, the child may have problems in some areas of
his/her academic or social life.
